History: Australia's Indigenous Living History (Off-site)


Program Location: Hands on Rock and The Drip at Goulburn River NP


Recommended for Year 3 students. 

This excursion visits the very special indigenous sites of Hands on Rock   and The Drip. The unit focuses on, and allows students to experience aspects of Australia’s Indigenous culture with a focus on our local Wiradjuri Country and its peoples.

  • PD2-3 Explains how empathy, inclusion and respect can positively influence relationships

  • Who lived here first and how do we know?
  • How has our community changed? What features have been lost and what features have been retained?
  • How and why do people choose to remember significant events of the past?
  • Why are empathy, inclusion and respect important in our relationships?

  • The importance of Country and Place to Aboriginal and /or Torres Strait  Islander peoples who belong to the local area. (ACHHK060)
  • The diversity and longevity of Australia’s first peoples and the ways Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are connected to Country and Place. (ACHHK077)
  • The nature of contact between Aboriginal people and/or Torres Strait Islander and others. (ACHHK080) 
  • Describe and practise ways respect, empathy and valuing diversity can positively influence respectful relationships (ACPPS037)
  • Describe behaviours that show empathy and respect for the rights of others
  • Investigate Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and other peoples’cultures and cultural heritages to respect and value diversity (ACPPS042)
  • Explore local Aboriginal cultures and cultural heritages and propose ways to show respect and value diversity in the community
  • Investigate ways different cultures celebrate important events and develop a sense of belonging in their community
